The THINKCODE association based in Nantes, France, aims to promote and help the integration of people with disabilities through digital technology. The three fundamental pillars of THINKCODE are disability, the digital world and education.
The main action carried out by Thinkcode is the organisation of the Handicamp every year as part of Nantes Digital Week. The LINKTOGETHER foundation has supported the show on two occasions, in 2017 and 2018.
The aim of this event is to introduce young people with disabilities to computer code and to help them find training or a job. Thus, during the Handicamp, Thinkcode proposes different workshops:
- Learning to code, hacking and understanding security issues,
- Meet with companies and get recruitment advice,
- Discover the accessible training courses
In 2017, the Handicamp, which was accessible to the general public, welcomed 550 participants and was designated as the “coup de coeur” of Nantes Digitale Week.
In 2018, Thinkcode narrowed the fair’s target to young people with disabilities and was able to welcome 80 young people with disabilities, 4 companies and 8 schools and universities in Nantes. In total, 150 people visited the Handicamp, 80% of whom were coding apprentices.
Thinkcode is pursuing its objective and hopes to develop a jobboard in the coming years to accelerate the digital inclusion of young people with disabilities.
